menu can still be accessed, you can look around, but everything else fails to work. basically, after a certain period of time, always random, the game just freezes. at first i thought maybe it was my internet, but we have tried other, newer, games that work with no problems at all. ![]() My brother and i are experiencing strange freeze-ups when playing over the internet. Sure, there's no "aiming" in all directions like modern FPS games, but that's not how Doom did it anyway, you can still use the mouse to turn and point in the direction you want to fire. Go to configure keyboard, configure WASD. Turn on novert (Mouse configuration-> disable "Allow vertical mouse movement"), increase the speed a bit (mine's at 11, accel at 1, threshold at 10), configure the buttons. ![]() Yeah, I tried Chocolate Doom before ZDoom, but I didn't know I needed Timidity at that time.īut Chocolate Doom is working now with music, and I can get it to run in a window I could only get Vavoom in full screen.Ĭrap I forgot Chocolate Doom doesn't have mouse aim and WASD controls. I did get Vavoom to not use the enhanced graphics. I write stuff on the internet, just like everyone else. WARNING: this post may be filled with lies and/or extreme sarcasm. And I've had no music issues, it just needs timidity. pk3 files are just like zip files.īam, Chocolate Doom. But, they are just files, so can be customized with a bit of effort. Adding detail is good, but changing the style is bad. I'm not too crazy about the "improved" graphics I think I can take off the use flags for vavoom-textures and vavoom-models and bring it back to vanilla graphics. Vavoom does have working music, but I'm not too crazy about the "improved" graphics. I'd suggest running the vavoom engine, with vavoom-music instead - no need for timidity I looked at ZDoom's wiki for installing on Linux, and all it says is to install Timidity++ and it'll work, but it doesn't.Īnyone else have some experience with ZDoom? I have Timidity++ set as the midi player in Zdoom. I can play Midi files with Timidity just fine, but it won't play midis in Doom. It requires Timidity++, which I installed through Portage and I added it to the default run level with rc-update. I installed ZDoom from their SVN repository. I've recently been playing ZDoom on my Gentoo machine, but I can't music to work. Probably because I use Linux, so I'll ask here and hopefully somebody will know. I already asked this on the ZDoom forum, but it's been a few days and I haven't gotten any help. Posted: Thu 2:24 am Post subject: ZDoom music doesn't work. Gentoo Forums Forum Index Gamers & Players Lastly, I just found out that sound fonts are also applied to ZDoom's midi playback.Gentoo Forums :: View topic - ZDoom music doesn't work. Has to be EXACTLY the same files loaded on the host and client, or it gets screwy. Loading mods is just -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/mod.pk3 after the -iwad line. opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom +set fullscreen 1 -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -join .X opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom +set fullscreen 1 -host 2 -warp 01 -skill 2 -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad I've messed with Timidity and lowered most of the settings in the timidity config and in zdoom sound settings.Īlso, you can host/join local ZDoom multiplayer games on the zero and pi3 pretty well (seems to work better than chocolate doom, within this narrow context). For whatever reason midi music in ZDoom seems to really tax the pi's. ![]() The zero it runs decent with lower resolutions and the correct sound settings.
